Congenital Heart Disease

Post congenital heart surgery arrhythmias
Patients who have surgical correction of congenital heart disease may develop arrhythmias later on in life.
Bicuspid aortic valve
The aortic valve has 2 instead of 3 leaflets. May be associated with aortic root aneurysm or aortic stenosis later on.
Mitral valve prolapse
Defect of the valve apparatus, resulting in mild regurgitation usually. Infrequently severe mitral regurgitation may occur and will need surgical repair.
Ventricular septal defects
Ventricular septal defects are congenital defects connecting the right and left ventricle . If large can lead to heart failure.
Atrial septal defects
Atrial septal defects are small defects result in a residual connection between the left and right atrium. Not infrequently detected incidentally. Can result in atrial arrhythmias or heart failure later on.
