Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathies
Infiltrative cardiomyopathies
| Infiltrative disorders of the heart such as sarcoidosis and amyloidosis.
|
Dilated cardiomyopathy
| Disorder of the heart muscle leading to heart failure.
|
Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy
| Disorder of the heart usually aggravated by strenuous physical activity and eventually leading to ventricular arrhythmias. |
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
| Patients with heart failure with preserved EF have normal but dysfunctional ventricles that result in congestion and heart failure symptoms. More common in elderly patients especially females.
|
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
| Disorder of the heart where there is hypertrophy of the heart muscle that can eventually lead to heart failure or sudden death.
|
Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction | Patients with heart failure with reduced EF (heart function LVEF <50%). They require intensive medical therapy and will be evaluated for prevention of sudden death.
